Purpose of life?

So do you really believed there is a specific purpose for everyone on earth? Does everyone have some unknown duty in life that once it is accomplished, then that's it, you keel over and die? What if your only purpose in life is just to be the guy to open the door for someone else with a greater "duty" than yours. So you just happen to open the door at the right time and someone unknown to you walks threw that door. Then minutes later you happen to die from a sudden brain aneurysm. Is this really what is planned? I know we are not suppose to question what is in our future or what God has planned for us. I'm a little confused on what makes some individuals more important to God then others. If you have to people who have both taken the time to better themselves by going to school and being good to their fellow man. What makes one individual succeed and one individual fail? If both have an equal amount of "goodness" why does one receive more blessings in the eyes of God?
If you have come here expecting answers, unfortunalty, I don't have them. I am just pondering the same questions that many others have.
